8.0 magnitude earthquake near Russia prompts tsunami alerts in Alaska, Hawaii
Tsunami alerts were issued for Alaska and Hawaii on Tuesday after an 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia, according to officials.
An advisory was announced for Samalga Pass, Alaska, and Hawaii and Guam were put under watch while the threat is being evaluated.
An advisory was also issued for Japan’s Pacific Coast regions from Hokkaido to Kyushu.
The earthquake occurred off the east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
