Several killed by this week’s Israeli strike on Tehran’s Evin prison
Israel’s airstrike on Tehran’s notorious Evin prison claimed the lives of a number of civilians, including a 52-year-old social worker and her 5-year-old son, the daily Shargh and other media reported on Friday.
Their bodies were pulled out from under the rubble three days after Monday’s attack, according to the report.
The boy’s body was found in the arms of one his mother’s colleagues, the report said. She had been working in the prison for 10 years and had taken her son to work with her on that day as daycare centres were closed.
An activist told the newspaper that the attack had been aimed at an administrative building and affected the prosecutors’ office, a sanitary area and the visitors’ centre, where a number of soldiers and lawyers were present.
The fatalities are reported to include a well known female painter and a doctor, with the exact death toll unclear.
The Israeli air force bombed Evin on Monday in what it described as a symbolic blow against the Iranian government.
Iranian activists condemned the attack, saying it endangered the lives of political prisoners.
