Omega Reveals a New Railmaster Watch with Two Classy Models

While on this side of the pond, train travel might not be quite the pull that it is in Europe or Asia. Nonetheless, it is still a part of many American lives—especially on the East Coast—and remains a heralded part of a tradition that stretches deep back into some of this nation’s most cinematic historical moments. Omega, not an American watch brand mind you, originally launched what was known as the “Professional Line” back in 1957, constructing a line of wristwatches for timekeepers of trains, boats, and racecar drivers. And this year, it brings back its rail-inspired edition, the Omega Railmaster.

The original Professional Line included the Speedmaster for racing car drivers, the Seamaster 300 for ocean divers and, of course, the original Railmaster for railway staff. What made the rail-oriented timekeeper so special was its anti-magnetic properties, which were able to resist magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gauss. At the time, most anti-magnetic watches only offered protection at around 60 gauss, so this was a pretty big step up.

The latest edition of the Railmaster continues in the pattern of its most recent revivals, which sees it designed with similar style to the Seamaster Aqua Terra collection, a tradition for the model since 2003. Made from stainless steel, the 38mm watch comes in with two different models.

The gray dial with black gradient edition features white the indexes and numerals that come in white Super-LumiNova to make sure the time is visible at all hours. It is available on a black leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet. The beige dial version, meanwhile, features a small seconds function above 6 o’clock as well as the Super-LumiNova indexes and numerals seen on the gray version. This model is available on a golden brown Novonappa leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet.

At their heart, the watches feature the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806, which are able to withstand magnetism up to 15,000 gauss. It is self-winding and features a 55-hour power reserve. The Omega Railmaster is priced between $5,400 and $6,400 and purchasable via the brand’s official website.
