Mariah Carey reveals her anti-aging secret: Denial
Mariah Carey’s anti-aging hack won’t cost you a penny.
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, the “Touch My Body” singer, who turned 56 in March (though you won’t hear that from her), playfully hinted that she’s in denial about getting older.
“I don’t allow it – it just doesn’t happen,” she told the outlet. “I don’t know time. I don’t know numbers. I do not acknowledge time – I have a new song that starts with that line,” she added, referring to a track in her upcoming album “Here For It All,” which drops on September 26.
Given that she doesn’t “acknowledge time,” it makes sense that the musician famously doesn’t believe in birthdays, either.
Last month, while appearing on the U.K. radio station Capital FM, hosts Sian Welby, Jordan North and Chris Stark humorously asked the A-lister a long list of questions in a game show-style format — including her thoughts on the annual celebration.
“Do you celebrate your birthday?” Welby questioned the pop star. “I don’t have a birthday, no,” she responded. “Anniversaries, yes.”
He quipped, “But if we were to meet up later, how would we know when?”
North cut in, saying, “It’s on Mariah’s time.” Carey added, “Yeah, I would have someone call you and figure it out.”
Carey’s denial of time isn’t a recent development. In fact, in a 2014 interview with Out Magazine, she confessed that she’s “eternally 12 years old.”
She continued, “I don’t count years, but I definitely rebuke them — I have anniversaries, not birthdays, because I celebrate life, darling.”
And Carey is fully aware that she may sound, well, a little delusional. “Please put an LOL next to this, because people are going to be, like, WTF?” the singer told the publication over a decade ago.
While the secret to her youthful looks comes in the form of mental fortitude, Carey is also known for bringing her own lighting wherever she goes and general “diva” lifestyle choices — like wearing glittering gowns to McDonald’s, for example.
